Professional Accountancy (M.B.A.)

The Utica College MBA in Professional Accountancy is designed for students who have a BS degree in accounting or business with a concentration in accounting. The primary focus of the program is prepare its graduates for professional accounting practice. The MBA in Professional Accountancy is an on-ground program, though individual courses may be taught using a “blended” or “hybrid” model that allows students to choose the method of access which best suits their personal and educational preferences.

The MBA in Professional Accountancy complies with the New York statutory 150­hour educational requirement for CPA licensure.  Combined with a typical undergraduate accounting degree, this program provides its graduates with more than 33 hours of accounting, including 12­15 graduate hours, and 36 hours of general business, including 12­18 graduate hours.

The curriculum for the MBA in Professional Accountancy consists of an 18­semester hour graduate Business Core, two required Accounting courses, and two electives. Taking five classes per term, students meeting all prerequisites can complete the program in two terms.

Student Learning Goals

Graduates from this program will be able to:

  • Use quantitative skills effectively.
  • Use computer technology effectively.
  • Identify and analyze issues involving ethics and professional responsibilities in accounting.
  • Demonstrate effective oral communications skills in business and accounting.
  • Demonstrate effective written communications skills in business and accounting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of financial accounting and reporting, cost and managerial accounting, taxation, and auditing and attestation services.
  • Perform accounting research.
