The Graduate Certificate in Health Care Advocacy/Navigation (HCAN) from Utica College is an online graduate-level patient-centered program designed to help existing, and those studying to be, health care professionals better understand and empower their patients. The program is also designed for health care professionals seeking to transition from hospital-based to private advocacy, health care administrators/managers looking to enhance their existing careers through leadership development, and attorneys wishing to re-focus their practices in the health care niche. We offer a Core program and two Specializations - Policy and Practitioner - that allow candidates to tailor their education to their specific interests and career goals.
The Graduate Certificate in Health Care Advocacy/Navigation (HCAN) from Utica College complements and enhances health care and other professionals’ existing and/or prospective careers and career paths by educating them for career advancement, leadership positions, and accountability and integrity within their chosen paths.
Health care access, delivery, and cost as well as policy and regulation are in a constant state of flux. The Graduate Certificate in Health Care Advocacy/Navigation from Utica College is nationally preeminent because it remains timely, relevant, and actionable educating students in the various models of health care advocacy. Graduates of Utica College’s Health Care Administration HCAN Specialization and Graduate Certificate will be able to:
- Analyze the concepts of health care advocacy/navigation and the role of the health care advocate/navigator.
- Integrate law, policy, and ethics into their understanding of the US health care system
- Effectively communicate concerns, diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options with patients, families, and the health care team.
- Develop skills that complement or supplement an existing career, career change, future career goal, and/or a Master’s Degree or doctoral program as well as behave with integrity and professionalism.
