This is a program of study for candidates seeking theNew York State certification to teach health educationand physical education, to coach, or to seekemployment in adventure education, sports, as well ascommunity health and wellness careers. Students willbe taught a range of methods by which healthpromotion can be achieved. In particular, this programemphasizes adventure education which involvesstructured learning exercises characterized byperceived risk or challenge (including low and highropes courses) and reflection. Please note that theTeacher Education track requires moderate physicalactivity including running, jumping, climbing, andtumbling. This program is offered at the undergraduateand graduate levels. Students will be admitted into thedual degree program as first year students and mustmaintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 in their first twoyears and have a GPA of 3.0 at the end of their JuniorYear. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required in years 4 and 5.

Core/General Education: 34-55 Credit Hours
Effective for the 2022-2023 academic year, Utica University has implemented a new general education program that replaces Core. Students who are admitted, or readmitted, for the 2022- 2023 academic year or later must follow the requirements of the General Education program. Students admitted prior to the 2022-2023 academic year must follow the requirements of the Core program.
