The mission of the Utica College Intensive English Language Program (IELP) is to develop the English language proficiency of English learners so that they are prepared for academic success in college study.
The Intensive English Language Program develops the English language proficiency of conditionally admitted students so that they are prepared for academic success in college study. It is an on-ground, two-semester, non-credit bearing program that students can enter in May, August, or January. Both graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to apply. Courses are designed to support high intermediate to advanced non-native speakers of English in mastering the listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills necessary to make progress in an American college environment. Courses meet for a total of 300 hours, or 20-23 hours per week of on-ground intensive instruction from highly qualified and experienced instructors. Students are able to complete the program in one or two semesters, depending on their level of proficiency. Once students have successfully completed the program, they are eligible to matriculate fully into their chosen degree programs at Utica College. After matriculation, further English-language support is offered through credit-bearing English courses designed to meet the needs of English learners.
