PSY 383 - Theories of Psychotherapy (3)The primary purpose of this course is to expose students to the most common approaches to psychotherapy with adults. The course surveys the major schools of psychotherapy including psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, existential, person-centered, gestalt/experiential, cognitive, behavioral, and multicultural/feminist. The course covers the historical development and context, the major theoretical underpinnings, and the most common techniques for each approach. The course also exposes students to issues and debates within the research literature about the effectiveness of these models. Prerequisite(s); if any: PSY 101 .
