POL 243 - Introduction to Law and Society (3)This course serves as an introduction into the interdisciplinary study of legal systems and practices. Students will learn about such basic information as the structure of the U.S. legal and political systems, the identities and interests of actors within those systems, and the history of American legal consciousness, or ways in which Americans think about law. Students will also learn about the foundational and critical academic theories and approaches that scholars have used to study these systems, actors, and histories. Students will explore the intersections of law, politics, and society, as they come to think about their own position in society with respect to the legal system.
